SEND and Inclusion at Brunel Primary & Nursery Academy

Mrs Anna Linsley is our Special Educational Needs and Disability coordinator (SENDCo)

Mrs Mary Hill is our SEND Governor

 Our Inclusive Philosophy & Principles

• High expectations and timely, effective support for all learners

• Adaptive teaching - planning and scaffolding to ensure that every child can access the curriculum at an appropriate level.

• Use of technology to support learning (for example through Showbie, where we scaffold resources, record progress, and tailor feedback for every learner

SEND & Additional Needs Provision

We:

• Have robust systems to identify, plan, implement and review support for pupils with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND)

• Use Target cards & resource packs to support which break down learning goals into manageable steps. The packs include tailored resources (e.g. visual prompts, manipulatives, word banks, scaffolded frames) so that learners have the tools they need to access tasks more independently

• Promote inclusive classrooms, where additional interventions are carefully timetabled to complement class-based learning

• Form close links with external agencies • Support sensory regulation, movement and learning breaks via whole class or individual activities

• Monitor outcomes for all learners through:

Scrutiny of attainment and progress

A focus on Engagement (attendance, participation, behaviour logs)

Work sampling

Learning Walks

Staff CPD

Governance Inclusion in Action:

What You Might See at Brunel

• A lesson where a learner uses a scaffolded organiser and a word bank from their resource pack or Showbie, while the adults check progress and offer high-quality feedback.

• A short movement break during a morning maths session, where learners stretch, walk, or do a quick coordination task before resuming focus.

• A child with an APDR plan referring to their personal target card, or task list, to check what "next step" they are working on.

• A class using Showbie: one pupil works on an adaptive task, another uses a scaffolded version of the same task, both submitting via Showbie and receiving specific feedback. • A pupil visiting the sensory room after a busy morning, using it briefly to regulate before returning to class.

• Staff adjusting seating, lighting or sensory supports in response to observations of pupil comfort/engagement.

All children are welcome in Brunel Primary and Nursery Academy, including those with additional educational needs, and we strive to include every child in all aspects of school life.

We aim to identify children who may have additional needs as early as possible. We do this as part of everyday classroom practice as well as by carefully monitoring the results of assessments and by meeting regularly with parents. Teachers and teaching assistants receive regular training to keep their knowledge of special educational needs up to date.

Our SENDCo works with the class teachers and teaching assistants to ensure that children with additional needs are able to learn in a way that benefits them best. Support can include:
•         Additional in-class support
•         Flexible groupings, including small group work
•         Access to specific resources
•         Access to outside agencies

Outside agencies who help us deliver high quality support for our children include:
•         Speech and Language Therapy
•         Educational Psychology
•         Cognition and Learning Service
•         School Nurse
•         Family Workers

If you wish to discuss your child's learning support, your child's teacher is the first point of call. If you need further help, please contact our SENDCo via the school office on 01752 848900.

Our SEND Policy outlines the policies and procedures we work by.

Our School Offer is an overview of the provision and support available for children with special educational needs, including those with an Education, Health and Care Plan.

Our SEND Report gives information about special educational needs in our school in the previous academic year.
