It's been another busy and enjoyable week in Perranporth class, with lots of learning happening across the curriculum.
In English, the children continued their diary writing linked to our Geography topic on deserts. They imagined being stranded on a desert island and produced some thoughtful and creative diary entries. Later in the week, we produced some art linked to our story book, Kensuke's Kingdom.
Maths lessons focused on multiplication and division, with plenty of practice to build number sense and confidence.
In Geography, we explored how people live in and use deserts, then also the risks to deserts, while Science lessons continued our work on electricity. The children also enjoyed gymnastics in PE, photo editing in Computing (see photo above!), and learning about habitats in French.
We finished the week with DT, making patterns for our book covers, PSHE discussions about friendships, Number Day activities and Achievers Assembly, celebrating the children's hard work and successes.
What a fantastic week we've had in Perranporth class! The children have been working hard, showing brilliant enthusiasm across the curriculum.
Here's a little snapshot of what we've been up to this week:
English
This week, our English learning focused on diary writing, with a desert twist! The children have been imagining life in hot, dry environments and writing desert diaries, thinking carefully about emotions, daily challenges, and descriptive language. We've been practising using exciting vocabulary and punctuation, and writing in role - some entries were so convincing they felt like real explorer journals!
Maths
In maths, we continued developing our multiplication and division skills. The children worked hard on building number sense through practical activities, pictorial methods, and daily mini maths sessions - fantastic effort all round!
Geography
In geography, we explored deserts in more detail, focusing on their physical features. The children learned about dunes, natural arches, mesas, salt flats and mushroom rocks, linking this knowledge beautifully to their diary writing.
PE & Computing
In PE, we continued gymnastics, working on balance, control, and sequencing movements. In computing, the children had great fun learning about photo editing and cloning, experimenting with digital creativity while developing key programming skills.
Science & RE
Science lessons focused on electricity, where the children explored insulators and conductors. In RE, we continued our important discussions around racism, encouraging thoughtful conversation, empathy, and respect.
French, Music & PSHE
Midweek, we enjoyed a lively mix of French and Music, learning about 'les habitats'in French and jazz in Music. On Friday, PSHE time was used to recap our NSPCC learning, helping children understand how to keep themselves safe and who to talk to if they're worried.

It has been another packed and purposeful week for our Year 4 and Year 5 children, full of creativity, curiosity and important conversations.
In Geography, the children developed their map skills by locating the world's deserts. They used atlases and maps to identify where deserts are found and began exploring what makes these environments so unique. This learning fed beautifully into our work in English, where the children have been building their grammar knowledge in preparation for writing their own desert diaries. The children have worked hard on sentence structure and detail, getting ready to bring their diary writing to life.
Some of our children were lucky enough to attend an art workshop at the local library, where they took part in creative activities and explored different artistic techniques.
In Science, the children investigated electricity through hands-on learning. They explored complete and incomplete circuits, testing what worked and what did not by using lamps, buzzers and motors. This practical work helped them develop a clear understanding of how circuits function and encouraged lots of problem-solving and teamwork.
We also began our new DT unit, where the children will be designing and making a book cover. They have started thinking about purpose and design, and will be choosing a fastening of their choice as part of their final product.
In RE, the children continued their learning about racism, engaging in thoughtful discussions about fairness, respect and treating others equally. This linked well with our PSHE lessons, where we focused on staying safe and speaking out, supported by guidance from the NSPCC. The children showed maturity and care when discussing how to seek help and support.
Our guided reading sessions linked closely to both our Islands topic and our science learning about electricity. A real highlight was watching a short clip from Billy Elliot, where Billy describes dancing as feeling like electricity through your body. The children particularly enjoyed making connections between this powerful description and their scientific understanding of electrical energy.
In French, we began an exciting new unit on habitats, learning new vocabulary and listening carefully to spoken French as we explored different environments.
It has been a busy and engaging week, and we are very proud of the enthusiasm, curiosity and thoughtfulness the children have shown across all areas of learning.

We have had a busy and exciting week of learning in Perranporth class, with lots of opportunities for the children to build skills, be creative and deepen their understanding across the curriculum.
English & Reading
This week, the children have continued working hard in Read Write Inc, developing their reading fluency and comprehension!
In English, we began writing diaries, linking beautifully with our Geography learning. The children explored what life might be like on a desert island and used this to create imaginative and descriptive diary entries. We have been really impressed with their ideas and effort.
Maths
In Maths, our focus has been on multiplication and division, with lots of work on our timestables, too. The children have been focusing particularly on the 11x and 12x tables, and took part in mini-maths sessions throughout the week to build confidence and speed.
Geography
Our new Geography topic on deserts began this week. The children explored where deserts are found in the world and what makes them unique environments. This learning has supported their English diary writing brilliantly.
PE
In PE, we started gymnastics, focusing on balance, control and basic sequences. We were really proud of some of our class going to the table cricket final, in which Brunel came 3rd!
Computing
During Computing, the children worked on photo editing, learning how digital images can be created and edited. They showed great enthusiasm and creativity.
Science & RE
In Science, we launched our new topic on Electricity, beginning to learn about electrical devices and how electricity is used safely in everyday life, plus we made electrical circuits to light the bulb!
In RE, we started a unit on racism, encouraging thoughtful discussions about fairness, respect and treating others kindly.
Art, Music & Languages
The children continued their Architecture project in Art, producing thoughtful and detailed work about Hundertwasser. In French, we learned about La Fête des Rois, and in Music, the children enjoyed a Classroom Jazz lesson, exploring rhythm and musical style.
PSHE & Assemblies
In PSHE, we began our new topic on relationships, focusing on positive interactions and friendships - how jealousy can be tough to deal with.
The week ended with our Achievers Assembly, celebrating the children's hard work and successes.
Overall, it has been a fantastic week full of learning, creativity and enthusiasm. Well done to all the children for their excellent effort throughout the week!

We really enjoyed learning about the careers of some people from our community. We were so lucky to hear from them as they inspired us for our futures!

And suddenly, it's the last day of term and the Christmas holiday is upon us...
A crazily busy term full of trips, swimming, music performances, art and fun; not forgetting a huge amount of hard work.
In our photos, you can see our class testing some of the electronic games invented in science by Treyarnon class. They were fantastic.

Wow, this has been another busy week as we approach the end of the Autumn term.
One of the highlights was the lantern parade at the weekend. Lots of families braved the weather to join us and the result was stunning. This culminated in a wonderful fireworks display at the Waterside. We were proud to have a large contingent from Y4/5, so thanks everyone.
In computing, Miss Henning has been working on some super Christmas jumper designs, with impressive results.
Also, we're busy practising and looking forward to our Christingle Service at St Stephen's Church on Monday, thank you for all the oranges and we hope to see you there!
This week has seen a veritable forest of trees in Y4/5, with
a fabulous visit to the Christmas Tree Festival in St Nicholas & St Faith
Church on Thursday. It made a great start to the festive season and is a
tradition we all look forward to at Brunel Primary & Nursery Academy. Many
thanks to the parents who accompanied us.
Also, we've been working on tree-based paintings in art;
with Y4 producing some stunning abstracts of Winter birch trees, using watercolours
and salt, whilst Y5 painted some super Winter landscapes in perspective -
naturally, with lots more trees! Check them out at Hunt the Issy tonight!
This weekend sees the Saltash Christmas Festival and Lantern
Parade; with carols at the bottom of Fore Street at 4.30pm and the Lantern
Parade at 6pm (meeting at the Drill Hall from 5.30pm onwards). We're looking
forward to seeing you there!
So we come to the end of another busy week in Y4/5; in English, we've been finishing our innovations on the story of 'Jack and the Beanstalk', set in Cornwall of course.
In maths,Y5 have just embarked on a new unit -Fractions, whereas Y4 are working on multiplying and dividing, with a spot of addition and subtraction revision.
Sound is the topic in science and we're looking at how sound travels, particularly through solids, liquids and gas, conducting some fun investigations to illustrate this along the way. Computing currently is all about coding, which has been fascinating.
Of course, Christmas is creeping ever closer, so we've also been practising carols and readings for our Christingle Service and creating some wintery art to bring a little magic to our classes for next week's 'Hunt the Issy', so do come along and check out our class galleries! We're still collecting jam jars by the way.
Finally, a huge highlight this week has been our lantern workshops with the lovely Jill Hudson, which is an annual treat that we always look forward to; we even had a visit from both the Deputy Mayor and the Mayor of Saltash, Rachel Bullock (who used to come to Brunel), so we felt very honoured. We hope you can join us for the parade on Saturday 6th December at 6pm.








After only 10 weeks of lessons, the Y4 children astounded us with their prowess on the violin with a concert for the whole school plus parents and carers. They played a number of pieces, charting their progress from the very beginning to the final performance. Many thanks to Mrs Sally Bartholomew for being such a great teacher and to the children for all their hard work.
