Class Blog for Y1/2 Lantic

A christmassy week in Lantic!

This week in Lantic we have had so much fun! We have had a very christmassy week making snowman cards with cotton wool and googly eyes. We have also been learning more about shape in our maths unit
where we used straws to make 3D shapes. We then discussed the properties of shapes such as vertices, edges and faces. The children did really well and loved making their shapes! We have also been
extremely busy and excited because it was of course our christmas play! This went super well and all the children should be very proud.
We have been exploring lots of information about the Arctic for our Literacy unit where we will write non-chronological reports based on this. We loved seeing the different animals that live there and what
they get up to.
We are super close to finishing for christmas and we look forward to another great week of learning. Next week we will be having even more excitement with christmas jumper day and our christmas meal plus
our escape room!

A week to remember in Lantic

We have had a wonderful week here in Lantic class where we have paid our respects for Remembrance day and created the most beautiful art work to display outside. We were very careful when we made our poppies.

In Maths, we have explored place value and learnt to count to 100! We have been comparing numbers using greater than and less than.

In English, we've been learning about Jack and the beanstalk, creating our own class story version which we rehearsed using actions. We have also been swimming every day this week which has been so wonderful and the children enjoyed this so much. They made so much progress it was amazing to see.

Next week, we will be getting lines sent home for the Christmas Play which is called 'The Fleece Force'. Be ready to receive lots of song lyrics to practise at home! Have a lovely weekend and we will enjoy more fun next week.

Super Lantic Skippers

This week in Lantic we have had loads of fun learning how to write instructions for carving a pumpkin. We all had a go at scooping out the seeds and pumpkin flesh! We then wrote our set of instructions using bossy verbs to make our writing accurate and interesting.

Lantic have really loved this and they should be really proud of their writing. In maths, we have been exploring addition and subtraction, learning to subtract within 10. We have been using counters to help us. In DT we finished our wheel and axle pull along toys which all look very colourful and fun! We then evaluated our end products and decided what we liked and what we could improve on. In PE, we have been playing mini cricket and got some amazing games on the go.There are some very talented cricketers in Lantic!

On Friday we had an amazing skipping workshop where we developed our skills. We then saw a skipping show from our professional which was absolutely fascinating - she even did 'pretzel skipping'! What a week! As usual please continue to read with your children at home for 10-15 minutes per day. Anton maths should be all working well now and there is work set for this week. Have an amazing weekend - 4 days left until half term for the children!

This week in Lantic we have had a really creative week!

The children have been completing their humorous stories about Mrs Armitage using adjectives to describe, this has been such a success and the children should be really proud.

We have now begun writing our own postcards to Mr Woolner from Mrs Armitage, using our imaginations to think of activities Mrs Armitage got up to.

We have spent time in Science exploring different smells and we used food to smell and make comparisons between strong and weak smells. We then ordered this from weakest to strongest.

In Geography, we went outside to explore the features of our playground and check what these look like on a map, using a key to help us identify each feature.

We have finished the week by completing our place value unit in maths and we look forward to starting our addition and subtraction unit next week.

In DT, we have had lots of fun improving our wheels and axles by making our wheels stronger with extra thick cardboard doubled up!

A fantastic week in Lantic, very productive!

We look forward to the next week of learning. Please continue to read with your child every night for at least 10-15 minutes as this really helps them! Thank you for your ongoing support. Have a fantastic weekend!

Lovely Lantic Class!

What a fantastic start we've had in Lantic Class! This week, the children really shone during their first PE session. They practiced their throwing and catching skills with great enthusiasm and took part in the exciting game of Dishes and Domes. It was wonderful to see everyone so active, working together, and having such fun! In DT, we've been busy exploring wheels and axles as we prepare to design and make our very own pull-along toys. The children showed brilliant curiosity and creativity as they got hands-on with the mechanisms. We have also been incredibly proud of the children's writing this week. Inspired by our class book Mrs Armitage and the Big Wave, the children produced some fantastic pieces of work, full of imagination and detail. Well done, Lantic Class - what a brilliant start to the term!
