What an unforgettable day! On Friday, our school field came alive for Brunel Sports Day, filled with cheers, cheers, and even more cheers as pupils competed and supported one another brilliantly. Each child showed incredible sportsmanship-cheering on teammates, offering high-fives, and celebrating every effort. No matter the result, enthusiasm ruled, and the collective energy was nothing short of inspiring.
The classic egg and spoon race was met with giggles, squeals, and some surprisingly steady hands! The sack race had everyone hopping in unison, occasionally tumbling, but always picking themselves up with a big smile.
The highlight of the afternoon was undoubtedly the obstacle course-complete with coloured water and vibrant hurdles. With the crowd on their feet and a rainbow of splashes marking each runner, the atmosphere was electric.
The sprints were a display of raw determination. Children poured their full effort into each dash, faces flushed with focus and energy. Mid-race cheers echoed, urging runners to push on to the finish line.
After tallying all the points, Team Tintagel emerged victorious-well done! They earned their win through exceptional dedication and teamwork.
What a fantastic week it’s been in Tregantle Class! Our learners have burst into action with fun and focused activities across the curriculum.
This year’s Bridge Games, our inter-trust competition, took a sporty twist— with a Wimbledon theme! The children have been absolutely buzzing, diving into tennis themed challenges: from racket coordination drills to mini court games. The enthusiasm has been contagious, and the whole class is rooting hard for Brunel to take home the trophy. We’ve seen impressive teamwork, cheering, and true sportsmanship in action!
We got hands-on with our number work this week through a dentist inspired maths session. The children counted all 20 teeth in their paper-mouth models, sorting them, adding them up, and even spotting imaginary “cavities” as subtraction problems. They practiced their skills with precision— ready for the dentist and mastering maths at the same time!
With this gorgeous weather blessing us, lessons have spilled beyond the classroom walls. We’ve used the sun-drenched playground for emergent writing, group puzzles, and even some outdoor reading. The fresh air and bright sunshine have made our week truly delightful.
A huge well done to everyone in Tregantle Class for your enthusiasm, effort, and smiles this week!
Tregantle Class delighted parents and staff with an engaging school assembly centered around the classic tale of The Little Red Hen. Incorporating hands-on learning, the children shared photographs and videos from their bread-making activities. They demonstrated the process of kneading dough and baking bread, paralleling the hen's efforts in the story. This practical experience reinforced the themes of hard work and perseverance. The assembly also featured highlights from the class's trip to the theatre to watch a live performance of The Little Red Hen. The children shared their excitement and reflections on the experience, showcasing their their ability to connect classroom learning with real-world experiences.
The event concluded with a heartfelt thank you to the parents who attended. Their presence and support were greatly appreciated, and the children were thrilled to share their hard work and creativity with their families.

What a wonderful final week we’ve had in Tregantle Class before the half-term break! The children have been busy, creative, and full of enthusiasm as we've rounded off a brilliant few weeks of learning.
To bring our storytelling to life, we’ve been exploring the magical tale of Jack and the Beanstalk. Inspired by Jack’s adventure, the children planted their very own beans! We discussed what plants need to grow and each child carefully potted a bean to take care of. We can’t wait to see which ones grow as tall as the beanstalk in our story!
Our young writers also put their skills to the test, producing some fantastic sets of instructions on how to plant a bean. From neat handwriting to clear step-by-step guidance, we were so impressed by the effort and thought that went into their work. Budding authors in the making!
In PE, we had tremendous fun playing 'popcorn' – a game using the parachute and lots of bouncing balls! It was brilliant to see such great teamwork, energy, and laughter as everyone took part and encouraged each other. To top off the week, we were treated to a very special music session with our music specialist, Sally Butlin. The children had a brilliant time exploring rhythms and sounds, and their enthusiasm for making music was infectious. A huge thank you to Sally for such a joyful and engaging session.
We’re so proud of all the children for their hard work and enthusiasm this half term.
Have a lovely break, and we look forward to seeing you all refreshed and ready for more adventures next half term!
This week Tregantle Class has been filled with exciting activities that have sparked curiosity and fostered creativity among our young learners.
The children embarked on a journey as budding cartographers, creating detailed maps of our school garden. Using symbols and keys, they navigated their surroundings, enhancing their understanding of spatial relationships and directional language. This hands-on activity not only honed their mapping skills but also deepened their appreciation for the natural world around them.
In PE, the focus was on developing balance and coordination. Through various activities, the children practiced balancing on one leg, hopping, and skipping, which are essential skills for physical development. These exercises also promoted teamwork and perseverance, as the children encouraged each other to improve and achieve their personal bests.
This week's story, Owl Babies, captivated the children with its tale of three baby owls searching for their mother. The narrative sparked discussions about family, reassurance, and the comfort of home. Inspired by the story, the children crafted their own owls using various materials, showcasing their creativity and understanding of the tale's themes.
To further nurture a love for reading, Tregantle Class visited Saltash Library. The children explored a wide array of books, selecting ones that sparked their interest. They were particularly excited to use the self-service borrowing system, marking a memorable experience in their reading journey!
We look forward to more adventures and discoveries in the coming week!

The first week of the summer term has been packed with excitement, creativity, and a lot of learning in Tregantle Class! The children have thoroughly enjoyed the activities we’ve had planned to kick-start our new term, with plenty of hands-on experiences to spark their curiosity. On Tuesday, Year 1 took part in a fantastic Royal Theme Day to introduce their big question for this half term: “What is a monarch?” The children were dressed as royalty, donning crowns and regal outfits, as they learned all about the role of a monarch in society. They explored the history of kings and queens, discussed what laws they would make if they were in charge, and even got to design their own crowns fit for a king or queen! It was a fun and interactive way to dive into a key part of history, and everyone enjoyed stepping into their royal personas for the day. Wednesday was a truly thrilling day as we welcomed the Royal Institute for a special science show all about rocket science! The children were absolutely amazed by the incredible demonstrations, including exploding pots, mini rocket launches, and even flaming bubbles! The enthusiasm was contagious, and it was a brilliant learning opportunity to get the children excited about science. To wrap up our eventful week, we celebrated Brunel Day on Thursday. The children had the chance to immerse themselves in the world of engineering as they spent the day designing and making their own trains and bridges. They also learned about Isambard Kingdom Brunel, the brilliant engineer after whom our school is named. The children loved discovering more about his life and achievements, and it was inspiring to see their creative ideas come to life through their designs. We’re looking forward to another exciting term of learning and exploration in Tregantle Class. This week, our Year 1 children embarked on an exciting and imaginative journey as they became both authors and illustrators. Inspired by the classic story The Little Red Hen, the children took the story's core themes of hard work, teamwork, and sharing and transformed them into their very own unique books. The process began by diving deep into The Little Red Hen story. Year 1 children explored the characters, the moral lessons, and the simple yet meaningful plot. But they didn’t stop there—they were encouraged to use their creativity and make the story their own.
Each child had the chance to write their version of the tale. Not only did the children write the words for their stories, but they also illustrated their books. Armed with crayons, pens, and pencils, they carefully drew pictures that complemented their words. Once the books were finished, the Year 1 children couldn't wait to share their hard work with the younger children in EYFS. In a special reading session, each Year 1 child read their book aloud to an eager audience of EYFS students. They were thrilled to see the excitement on the EYFS children's faces, and the younger children enjoyed the experience just as much, asking questions and applauding their storytellers. This writing highlighted the wonderful progress our children are making, and we can’t wait to see how their creativity continues to blossom!
As we head into the Easter break, we want to extend our warmest wishes to all of our families. We hope you have a wonderful, relaxing time together. Thank you once again for being such a vital part of our school community. We truly appreciate everything you do, and we look forward to another fantastic term ahead!
Tregantle and Lantic classes have had the most incredible trip to Plymouth Theatre Royal to watch The Little Red Hen! They walked all the way from school to Saltash Train Station where they eagerly awaited their train to Plymouth. There was much excitement when the train arrived! Traveling over Brunel Bridge was wonderful - the children saw the road bridge and lots of boats below. Next was another walk from Plymouth Station to the Theatre Royal. The show was just fantastic - the children were so engrossed from start to finish. There was time for a picnic in the theatre before walking back to the train station to return home. All of our children behaved impeccably and were a joy to take out!
