So, we've arrived at the last day of term and indeed the
school year, which means it's time to
bid goodbye to Lantic class and wish you all a very happy Summer holiday
This term has been full of thrills and excitement,
including a Forest School evening, complete with a campfire and a science trip
to Tincombe Nature Reserve. We presented our class assembly all about the Wild
Things and were so pleased to show you all our lovely outdoor classroom with a
vegetable patch and beautiful flower beds.
We also celebrated the talent at Brunel Primary with several
events including Sports day, Music of the Afternoon and of course this week's Brunel's
Got Talent.
We've enjoyed playing on our brand new playground
equipment and our recent introduction to the Builders' Yard, which has endless
opportunities for exploration and creativity..
However, that's just a small part of Lantic's journey,
for the class have also worked incredibly hard in all areas of the curriculum,
which was so apparent in the vast numbers of books they've been bringing home!
So, now's the time to reflect on all the fun, friendship
and naturally lots of laughter along the way - it's been great.
Thank you so much for all your support, particularly this
term.
With love from the Lantic team xxx
Lantic Update 18.7.25
Well, it's the last full week in Lantic class and it's
been such a busy one.
Here are just a few of our highlights:
PE was fun on Monday, we tried out some new athletics
techniques including, javelin, shuttle relay and hurdles.
On Tuesday, Mrs Williamson made a courgette cake for us
using our home grown courgettes, not everyone wanted to try it but most of us
found it delicious.
Sadly, Music of the Afternoon (MOTA 2025) on Wednesday wasn't
possible on the field due to the weather, so we did it in the hall. Lantic
class sang beautifully and we all felt very proud. Do check the recording out
on social media.
On Thursday, we had a special visit to our Brunel
Builders' Yard, where we built some amazing structures and had the best fun choosing
the scrap items to make our own designs. We also had the heats for the Lantic class
entry for Brunel's Got Talent and are delighted to announce our winners were: Emily
and Liliana with their fabulous dance and April with her amazing karate moves.
They will be representing us on Monday 21st in
the grand final.
Next Monday, Jane is going to kindly cook us some courgettes and
beans from our vegetable patch. We shall try to encourage everyone to try them!
Also, on Friday, it was time to have another visit to see
Miss Pentreath and spend the whole afternoon there in our new classroom,. We
went home with all sorts of information about next year and we're really
looking forward to it.
Have a lovely weekend, everyone.
What a busy week for Lantic class!
On Monday, we enjoyed performing in our assembly all
about 'Wild Things' and we were delighted to see so many visitors in the
audience. So thank you so much to all of you who came to watch.
Afterwards, it was lovely to welcome you all our outdoor
classroom and garden. Apart from showing off our amazing vegetables and
beautiful flowers, we were also able to read our own stories based on the 'Wild
Things', we hope you liked them.
On Wednesday, we had a visit to our next class, Mousehole,
where we spent the time with Miss Pentreath, Miss Price and Mrs Wilde, talking
about moving to our new class in September. We've been thinking a lot about
change recently in PSHE.
Then on Friday, it was time to have another visit to see
Miss Pentreath and we were able to ask her lots of questions about our new
class, it's beginning to look like a very exciting year for us all.
Important reminder: Next week, we're having the class
competition for our annual Brunel's Got Talent show, so get practising!
Have a lovely weekend, everyone.
Look at our before and after photos and what we can achieve when we all work together...
This week we wanted to share our lovely outdoor classroom
with you. We are so proud of it, it has been a lot of hard work but we think
you'll agree it has been so worth it. We now have a super spot to paint, read
or just take a moment to chill.
As you can see, we started with a weedy old patio and now
it's a thriving garden. We started with some fantastic assistance from Mrs
Hooper and Mrs McNeil who helped us by getting rid of so many huge weeds - so a
big thank you to them.
Our beautiful flowers include sunflowers, marigolds,
petunias and geraniums to name just a few. We also have our own little
vegetable patch, where we are growing runner beans, courgettes, butternut
squash and cucumbers. We even have apples, cress and peppers growing on our windowsills,
so watch this space.
Being responsible is one of our key Brunel Values and all
of Lantic class have been responsible for making such a difference to our
environment, so well done everyone!
Lantic Update 27.6.25
English: It's been letter writing this week based on
our class book 'The Magic Paintbrush'. Our letters have focused on saying thank
you for gifts.
Maths: We are spending lots of time practising our
times tables at the moment, particularly the 2x and 5x tables - we sing them,
we dance them, we chant them, we test them..
Music: Lots and lots of singing this week in Lantic
class as we practise for our class assembly (Monday 7th July 2.30pm)
and Music of the Afternoon (Wednesday 16th July 1.30pm). We are
hoping to see you all there.
Science: We're keeping a close eye on our seeds
experiment and can report.....
PSHE: This half term's topic is 'Changing Me' so
we're considering how we change as we grow up.
Art: This week has been a great time to use our
outdoor classroom for a spot of painting, come to our assembly to see the
results!
DT: After a lot of careful planning, cutting and gluing,
we've finally finished our wild things puppets and they're fantastic.
PE: A very active week as we've been practising for
Sports day and then we all had the best time in all our activities and races.
It’s been another exciting week in Lantic class. Here are
just some of the things we’ve been doing:
English: We’ve been writing some wonderful stories based
on Where the Wild Things Are and they are amazing but more about that next
week. We’ve had a lot of fun along the way because we set them in Saltash and
we’ve focused on using some great descriptive language with interesting
adjectives.
Maths: We’re coming to the end of our topic on
fractions in Y2 and Y1 and next we’ll be looking at Position and Direction, so
it’ll be all about movement and turns.
Science: Our Plant topic is proving to be a great success
and we’ve worked hard to improve our outdoor space by making a beautiful flower
and vegetable garden. This week we’ll be sending our sunflowers and cucumbers
home for you to plant so that you may take part in our competition to see who
can grow the tallest sunflower or the largest cucumber. We can plant them at school
if you prefer – just let me know!
Geography: This half term’s theme is ‘What’s it like
to live In Shanghai?’, so we’ve been thinking about what we’d like to find out.
We’ll keep you posted.
PE: It’s Athletics now so we’re practising hard for
Sports day.
Barnardos Visit: On Thursday, the Y2 children had a
workshop all about ‘Healthy Relationships’ which was really thought-provoking.
Mayor’s Assembly: We were so lucky on Monday to have
a visit from Saltash’s new Mayor – Councillor Rachel Bullock, who used to be a
pupil at our school and told us all about the Mayor Choosing Ceremony this
Friday 13th (Guildhall 7.10pm). I’m hoping to see some of you there.
What a great effort from Lantic class at the Saltash Regatta parade on Saturday!
Despite the gloomy weather and the threat of heavy showers, our class were very well represented in the parade.
They turned up in the brightest colours to reflect this year's theme 'All Things Bright and beautiful, one of our Y1 girls even had a fabulous rainbow plait, which was greatly admired.
Waving our streamers and proudly carrying the Brunel Primary & Nursery Academy flag and banner, we paraded all the way down Fore Street and Lower Fore Street to Jubilee Green. We even managed to collect another member of Lantic class on the way.
I know that it takes a lot of organise to come to a school event on a weekend, particularly one with a dreadful weather forecast, so huge thanks to all the children and families who came.
It's been one of the most exciting weeks for us all in Lantic class.
Firstly, we were so delighted when our brand new playground was opened by the Mayor of Saltash. We heard all about how she used to play on our playground when she was a little girl. We still can't believe that we won the competition to collect the most plastic, across the whole country. Everyone received a brand new lunch box and water bottle too, what a lovely surprise!
On Thursday morning, we ventured out for a spot of gardening, as it was Making a Difference Morning and Relax the Rules Day. We decided we wanted to improve our outside space, we're going to reveal as results after the half term holiday but huge thanks to Mrs Hooper and Mrs McNeil who started all the hard work by clearing the weeds. Also, thank you to the parent helpers who've been painting the fence. Then in the afternoon, it was time for a rest with a relaxing reading session with Talland class. All in all, a very busy week, so have a lovely holiday everyone, see you on Monday 2nd June.
We’ve had a brilliant week working on our class story ‘Where the Wild Things Are’ , practising learning the story using the story map and adding actions to help us remember. We’ve even added in the occasional ‘wild rumpus’ because it’s an excellent excuse to get out in the beautiful Brunel grounds.
Next week, we’re starting to write own stories set in Saltash, so we’re really excited about that. On the same theme, in DT we’re making wild thing puppets in felt, it’s quite a tricky process but such fun, so watch this space.
In History, we've had our own coronation and have been learning about how William the Conqueror became King by looking at the evidence in the Bayeux Tapestry
We’ve also visited Saltash Library for their Science week to try out some of their experiments and even met a robotic dog. Then we planted our sunflower seeds as we’re hoping to brighten up our outdoor space. If anyone has any spare plants at home, they'd be gratefully received.
We have has a very busy first week back... On Wednesday we had a day of Kings and Queens and all thing royal to kick off our new topic 'What is a Monarch?' On Thursday the Royal Institute gave an amazing assembly all about sustainability - there were lots of explosions and exciting experiments! On Friday, we held our Brunel Day - celebrating the life and work of Isambard Kingdom Brunel. Oh and we've also learnt a bit about how Christian's believe the world was created and some more Math's! See below for all the amazing things we are learning this half term!
