Owl learning

The Nursery children have finished their half term learning based around their focus story Owl Babies.

They have been busy drawing, painting and creating their own owls with various medium and have enjoyed sharing the story with each other.

We have seen them retelling the story to their friends, and acting out parts of the story, too.

We've learnt that a baby owl is called an owlet, and that a group of owls is called a parliament.

Autumn 2 KIRFs and Upcoming Maths Week England

Next week (Mon 11th  - Fri 15th Nov), sees the return of Maths Week England! As such, children will be taking part in lots of fun maths puzzles and games in lessons, as well as finding out about maths in real life careers during a Newsday Tuesday special.

Sharing stories

Nursery children chose some animal story books to take to St Anne's this week; the Grannies loved sharing the stories and especially talking about the adventures they got up to!

The children enjoy a delicious treat of a biscuit and juice, which they say 'Thank you!' for.

We always finish by singing some Nursery rhymes and our favourite song 'If you're happy and you know it'.

St Anne's

Nursery have been delighted to resume our visits to St Anne's; we took our special story 'Owl Babies' to share.

The Grannies loved the story and enjoyed helping us make our own baby owls. The feathers were very tickly!

Do you know what baby owls are called?

Raining

Well, this week we have had a change in the weather, but it hasn't stopped us from going outside!

Although it has taken us a little longer to get 'booted and suited' we have still been able to come in and out depending on where we like to do our learning.

Some children prefer to stay indoors in the warm and dry but others have been keen to get outside to explore and find some puddles to splash in. We didn't have many puddles on the playground so we made some of our own!

Outside

Issy's Nursery children have enjoyed this last week of sunshine and being able to pop in and out of the indoor learning environment to explore the outside.

Some of our new children have really enjoyed the outdoor space and it has made settling in so much easier.

Whether the children have been digging, sliding, climbing, investigating, spinning, rolling, pretending or chatting to their friends, everyone has enjoyed feeling the warm sun on their faces.

Reading

We love books at Nursery and we have lots of book stations around our room so the children can access books in many places.

We share a special focus story each term and as you may know, our current story is Owl Babies; we have been sharing the story at group story time and the children have even been reading the story to our own owl babies.

The children have been sharing books with their friends or reading them on their own, but they especially like it when Mr Woolner comes down to share books with them!

KIRFs are kicking off!

Games Night is Back!

This half term's Key Instant Recall Facts (KIRFs) for maths can be found in the document below. KIRFs are carefully planned and considered for each year group, right from Nursery through to Year 6 in order to provide our students with an increased speed, fluency and confidence with core number facts, which are the very foundation of their maths learning.

At Brunel, we think maths is far from boring! There are lots of exciting and fun ways to practise and learn these facts; take a look in the document below to find a variety of ideas, resources and online links.

What's more - you are invited to Brunel's half-termly Games Night! Join us on Thursday to play a wide range of family favourites: board games, card games, puzzles and more... All of these will help to sharpen maths skills, whilst having fun: it's win-win!

Everyone is welcome: all year groups, friends and family. There will be refreshments available for children.

During the evening, teachers will be available to be challenged to a game or two, as well as answer any questions about your child's KIRFs and maths learning.
FREE resources will also be available to take away in order to help children to practise their KIRFs at home.

We look forward to seeing you there!

Welcome back

Welcome back everyone! We hope you had a lovely break between the showers!

Our current children start back this week, with our new friends visiting next week before they start. If you see them waiting to come in, please say hello and introduce yourselves.

Our new focus story will be Owl Babies; we will be thinking about how we are feeling and what can make us feel anxious or afraid; we will be looking at the number 3 and sizes; we will also be talking about families at home.

Do you have this story at home? Can you find it in Saltash Library?
Let us know on Tapestry.
